The Response of, and on, Twitter to the Release of Dabiq Issue 15

On 10 and 11 April 2017, Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC) hosted its first high-level Conference on Online Terrorist Propaganda. On this occasion, over 150 participants gathered at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague to discuss a wide variety of topics pertaining to the online terrorist threat.

UPSI's Daniel Grinnell presented a paper entitled the Response of, and on, Twitter to the Release of Dabiq Issue 15 alongside Stuart Macdonald and David Mair of the Cyberterrorism Project at Swansea University.

The paper reports interim findings from work conducted by the OSCAR Centre, in partnership with the Cyberterrorism Project, which received funding via the CHERISH-DE Escalator Fund to conduct an in depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of the dissemination of online terrorist magazines. Building on capabilities within UPSI's purpose built SENTINEL platform, the project captured and analysed data in terms of the content, metadata of posts and their distributors.
